Joe Grebmeier joined the City of Greenfield management team in March 2003. He has earned a Master’s Degree from CalPoly-Pomona in Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University, in Social Science. Joe is also a gradate of the FBI National Academy and the California POST Command College.
His prior experience includes 22 years of service with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department, which included command of the King City Station, the Coroner’s Office, and promotion to Chief Deputy Sheriff-Coroner. Joe has also earned certification from the International Association of Law Enforcement Planners, as an Advanced Law Enforcement Planner. He also an Adjunct Instructor with Hartnell College, teaching Administration of Justice classes during the past 20 years.

His involvement with the local community includes two terms as a council member with the City of King; Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority Board of Directors; President, Monterey Bay Division, California League of Cities; and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, George L. Mee Memorial Hospital. He has lived in the local area since 1977.
He is a current member of the FBI National Academy Associates, Command College Alumni, Society of Police Futurists International, International Association of Law Enforcement Planners, California State Coroner’s Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, California Peace Officer’s Association, and the California Police Chief’s Association
The Police Chief is responsible for the overall management and accountability for investigation services, patrol services and support services. Additionally, the Chief of Police is responsible for all code enforcement, business license inspections, and animal control. Administrative and criminal report preparation, storage, and retrieval of records. Evidence handling, storage, and retrieval. Investigations and reports on all reported crimes. Identification and apprehension of law violators. Recovery of stolen property and its return to the rightful owner. The Chief is responsible for a variety of community oriented policing programs, including but not limited to, School Resource Program, Bike Patrols, Neighborhood Watch, and Security Surveys, departmental Public Relations, Citizen Complaints, and Foot Patrols.
