2009 PFI Innovation Award Recipients (inaugural year):
- First place award winner: Spears Westbrook, Gene Stephens, and James Alexander - In recognition of their collective efforts to found the Public Safety Leadership Development Consortium
- Honorable mention award winner: Joseph A. Schafer - In recognition of his contributions in editing "Policing 2020: Exploring the future of crime, communities, and policing"
2010 PFI Innovation Award Recipients:
- First place award winner: the University of Houston Futures Studies in Commerce Program for its Certificate in Strategic Foresight (presented to Peter Bishop)
- Honorable mention award winner: Sheriff Leroy Baca, Los Angeles Sheriff's Department in recognition for his development of an education-based approach to police discipline.
William Tafoya Founder's Award
In 2010, PFI created the William Tafoya Founder's Award. In honor of the renowned founder of the Society of Police Futurists International, this award symbolizes outstanding dedication to police futures. The award emphasizes its recognition of members' services provided to PFI, and considers the members' contributions to promoting futures thinking within the policing milieu.

- James A. Conser, in recognition of his long standing dedication to PFI and outstanding contributions to the development of the organization through his membership as a Charter member, past Executive Board of Directors member, and Bylaws Steering Committee Chair.
