Judith Lewis has more than thirty-eight years governmental and community
experience including twenty-seven years as a law enforcement professional
in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in Custody, Detective,
Administrative and Patrol assignments. As a Captain, she commanded
the Departments Internal Affairs Bureau; led the SANE Bureau,
a drug and gang prevention program; and inaugurated the "Drugs,
Pregnancy & You" Program, a prevention effort targeted
at high school students and addressing the dangers of prenatal substance
abuse. She served as a Watch Commander at three Sheriffs Stations.
She also headed the Field Operations Training Unit where she designed
and implemented in-service training programs for field personnel.
Captain Lewis represented the Sheriffs Department on various
committees including the Interagency Child Abuse & Neglect (ICAN),
Domestic Violence Council, Elderly Abuse Council, Mental Health
Liaison, Violence Prevention, L. A. County Office of Education,
and National Conference of Christians & Jews.
Other associations include Los Angeles County Speechcrafters, Past
President; World Future Society, Professional Member; Police Futurists
International (PFI), Editor, Police Futurist newsletter and Past
President; League of Women Voters, Orange Coast, President; and
Past Social Policy Chair and a member of the Citizen Participation
Advisory Board in Huntington Beach.
Ms. Lewis has published articles in professional journals on topics
including law enforcement training, drug prevention programs and
futures research. She is a frequent speaker on various subjects
including drug and violence prevention, correctional institutional
management, law enforcement futures research, welfare reform, juvenile
justice and other topics for community and government groups. She
has spoken before such varied audiences as the World Future Society,
AARP, and President George Bush, and has appeared on PBS television.
Captain Lewis has taught courses at the Sheriff's Academy, Cerritos
Junior College and California State University at Los Angeles. She
currently teaches courses on Internal Investigations, Employee Discipline
and Public Safety Employee Leadership & Management to Criminal
Justice Agencies throughout California.
Judith Lewis has a B.A. in Political Science and an M.P.A. in Public
Administration from the University of Southern California. She is
also a Graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy and the California
Command College.
Ms. Lewis is married with three grown children and seven grandchildren. |
