Joe is a faculty member in Administration of Justice at SIUC, an officer in PFI, and a member of the Futures Working Group. He holds a bachelors degree from the University of Northern Iowa and graduate degrees from Michigan State University. Joe has published on police decision making in traffic stops, community policing, and perceptions of the police; he is the author of Community Policing: The Challenges of Successful Organizational Change. He serves as a consultant to numerous police agencies and training facilities across the country. He is currently involved in research projects studying racial profiling, fear of crime, police oversight, policing the mentally ill, and the etiology and management of white supremacist identities. Through the Futures Working Group, he is co-editing a volume that explores the issues likely to confront policing in 2015.
